Why Trusts and Foundations are vital to our mission
Today, over 110 million people are forcibly displaced, a sobering and alarming figure. Trusts and Foundations play a vital role in helping UNHCR to save the lives and protect the rights of refugees, forcibly displaced communities and stateless people all around the globe.
From donating lifesaving emergency funding, to providing valuable insight and supporting our long-term work in education, water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH), livelihoods, environment, health and protection, our partnerships help us to build a better future for some of the world’s most vulnerable people.
We are committed to advancing the Sustainable Development Goals and to creating long-term and durable solutions for refugees and displaced people – Trusts and Foundations will be key partners in helping us achieve these ambitious aims.

In 2022, torrential monsoon rains caused devastating flooding across Pakistan, affecting some 33 million people. The floods brought destruction and damage on an enormous scale, destroying the homes and livelihoods of millions. Thanks to generous supporters like the Guernsey Overseas Aid & Development Commission, UNHCR was able to respond quickly with humanitarian aid for the most vulnerable on the ground:
“The Commission is very pleased, on behalf of the people of Guernsey, to support the work of the UK for UNHCR to help to alleviate the effects of the Pakistan floods. It recognises that the scale of the flooding and the ongoing impact on communities is unprecedented and, in such situations, refugees tend to be the hardest hit. As the UNHCR has an established presence in Pakistan and was already distributing core relief items to 50,000 flood affected refugee households, it was an obvious choice of partner to ensure that the Commission’s donation was used in the most effective and beneficial way possible.”
-Deputy Chris Blin, President of the Guernsey Overseas Aid & Development Commission
