Let’s celebrate with the humble cup of tea.

Brits agree that a simple cup of tea has the power to bring people together. In fact, three quarters (77%) of tea drinkers in the UK think having a cuppa with someone can create space for a great conversation, whilst more than eight in ten (86%) agree that a cup of tea can even cheer you up. *

Bringing together refugees, supporters and tea lovers from across the country, we’re looking to start a new conversation about what it means to be forced to flee your home by listening to people’s stories.

To mark Refugee Week, UK for UNHCR launched Cuppa Hope pop-up cafés for Tea & Talks with refugee storytellers from around the world.

Many cultures share a long history of tea drinking with their own, varied traditions. We’re creating spaces to bring together our shared love of a cosy cuppa and a chat, and the beautiful tea rituals that refugees have brought with them to the UK.

Our Cuppa Hope Tea & Talks featured hosts from Afghanistan, Bangladesh, East Africa, Syria and Ukraine.

Brew a Cuppa Hope at home and carry on the conversation

Each storyteller who spoke at our Cuppa Hope Tea & Talks has their own favourite tea recipe which reminds them of home. The teas, brewed with flavours from cinnamon to cardamom, are delicious and simple to make.
